Nancy Hornback’s quilting interests began in 1973 when she checked out library books and taught herself to quilt.  In 1982, she was one of six founding members of the Prairie Quilt Guild in Wichita.  She has been studying quilt history since the mid-1980s.

She was a co-founder, board member and quilt discovery day coordinator of the Kansas Quilt Project.  Nancy wrote a chapter, “Nineteenth Century Red and Green Appliqué Quilts,” for the 1993 publication Kansas Quilts and Quilters.  She is a former board member of the American Quilt Study Group.

Nancy co-authored Quilts in Red and Green: And the Women Who Made Them and Red, Green and Beyond for Kansas City Star Quilts with Terry Clothier Thompson.

Nancy researches, lectures, curates quilt exhibits, and makes quilts.  Born and raised in Southern California, she has lived in Wichita, Ks., since 1967.
